Rat Trap – The episode opens with Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) entering the bedroom of a sleeping Antoine Arloud (Gregoire Colin). Antoine awakens and is startled by Harry’s presence. Harry wishes him good morning, jerks back the cover, and pulls him to the foot of the bed. Harry asks him to hand over the memory stick. Antoine denies any knowledge of it. Harry explains what he is about to do to him and suggests he comply to avoid spending a week in ICU. Antoine reluctantly retrieves the memory stick from a drawer and gives it to him. Harry asks for the copy. Antoine initially denies it exists but turns it over to him. Harry demands he stay away from Bella Harrigan (Lara Pulver). Antoine agrees. Harry thanks him and turns to leave when Antoine makes him a 40,000-pound proposition. Pretending to be impressed, Harry grabs him, crams the bundle of money in his mouth, declines his offer, and leaves. At Cotswold, Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan) and his dog are at the pond when he receives a call. He listens and says all right. Elsewhere, Harry pecks on the window to wake Jan Da Souza (Joanne Froggatt). She curses him under her breath and goes to unlock the door. Karen tells Harry that Mike (Ben Jones) is away. He claims they are staying to care of Mike’s kittens and enters the houseboat. Jan demands to know where he spent the night. He says nowhere because he hasn’t slept. Gina Da Souza (Teddie Allen) angrily slips on her headphones.
Conrad informs Maeve Harrigan (Helen Mirren) of undertaker Pete (Jim Conway) notifying him about the police finding Archie Hammond (Alex Jennings). Elsewhere, Harry tells Jan about Eddie Harrigan (Anson Boon) stabbing Tommy Stevenson (Felix Edwards) 60 times and paying Valijon (Peter Ferdinando) to dismember his corpse. He says Conrad fatally shot Archie in front of his family and Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell) blew up Kevin Harrigan’s (Paddy Considine) house. He informs her of convincing Valjon to confess to Tommy’s murder and the care home to give Maria’s mum a bed. She expresses her dislike of his work but lives with it. He agrees to take her and Gina home. At Cotswold, Paul (Emmett J Scanlan) questions if it was really Archie’s body in the casket with the Scottish woman. Conrad argues that it was Archie and someone tipped off the police. He asks Paul to wait in the hallway before telling Maeve one of those present that night is a rat and only he and Harry knew where Archie was buried. She suggests Harry is the informant but he doesn’t believe it.
At the yard, Kevin voices concern about Valjon breaking. Harry says if he does, all bets are off the table. At a garage, Zosia (Jasmine Jobson) is working on a car when Donnie (Alex Fine) arrives and claims to have good news for Harry. She denies any knowledge of Harry. He jots down his number. She snaps his photo. Upon leaving, he says have a nice day, Zosia. She contacts Harry and sends him Donnie’s photo. He denies recognizing him and asks to be notified if shows up again. At a therapy session, Jan pretends Harry is there. She says a lot has happened but feels nothing because she expects nothing and gets nothing. Emily asks if Harry frightens her. Jan assures her he would never touch her or Gina but living with him is sometimes scary. Emily asks how she feels about Harry and Kevin’s relationship. Jan claims to like Kevin. At the yard, Harry asks Kevin if he remembers a screw Alan Rusby (Nigel Lindsay). Kevin has a flashback of Rusby beating him. He denies knowing him and gets a bit upset when Harry tries to pressure him. He receives a call from Maeve saying if he is with Harry tell him hi. At a therapist session, Jan complains about Harry putting his other family above her and Gina. Upon leaving, Jan texts Alice (Emily Barber) to invite her for coffee. Watching from a nearby car, Paul notifies Conrad that he is in pursuit of Jan.
At the yard, Kevin suggests Bell avoids Cotswold because she had an affair with Conrad. He says Maeve told him about the affair and when he confronted her, she confessed. Conrad was 30 years older than her and introduced her to Kevin. Elsewhere, Jan and Alice discuss their different opinions of sex. At the yard, Kevin admits to being too ashamed to tell Harry about the affair. Elsewhere, Alice is impressed with the Souza home. Jan tells her that Harry works in security. Alice says Jason is a quantity surveyor. At the yard, Harry receives a call from Conrad asking if heard from Richie. Harry says no. Conrad arrives at the Souza house. Surprised to see him, Jan rings him up and introduces him to Alice. After a few pleasantries, Alice leaves. Conrad tells her that he is aware of their troubled marriage. She asks who told him. Refusing to answer, he says Harry is Kevin’s brother and his son. He claims to only want the best for him. She suggests it would be better for Harry to separate because the Harrigans are his family. He reminds her that she had Harry Gina and he needs her. He places his hand on her leg. She tries to push it away but he resists. Taking his hand away, he demands she never talk to anyone other than family, about Harry. She agrees. Upon leaving, he asks her to keep their meeting between them.
Speeding down the highway, Harry receives a call from Richie telling him to come alone to the Monkey and be there by midnight. Harry informs Conrad and Kevin. At Cotswold, Eddie tells Maeve that Kevin and Harry don’t respect him. She sarcastically says who cares what cuckoo thinks before claiming to love Harry. He questions if they did the right thing. She assures him it was and now, the Stevensons see him as strong. She warns that they will soon send another message. Elsewhere, Harry warns Jan whatever she says in therapy Conrad will find out. She tells him about Conrad’s visit. He curses. Elsewhere, DS Ivan Fisk (Luke Mably) urges Alice to get closer to Conrad. She insists they take it slow. Elsewhere, Harry criticizes Jan for what she has done. She denies doing anything and asks if the Harrigans are the Taliban. He says when Conrad gets going, she will wish he was. Later, Harry gives Bella the memory sticks and assures her it is over. She insists on keeping her deal with Antoine and dials his number. Harry grabs her phone. She reminds him that he works for the Harrigans. Upon leaving, he encounters Kevin and claims to have been urging Bella to take him back. During a call, Bella tells Antoine she wants to keep their deal. An incoming call from Harry pops up on her phone. She ignores it when she hears a knock at the door. She looks out the peephole, sees Kevin, and ends the call. Kevin asks for a hug. She complies and makes him a Scotch. He asks what she and Harry talked about. She claims he wanted her advice on a gift for Jan. Kevin asks her to go with him to Cotswold but she refuses.
Driving down the road, Kevin has a flashback of Rusby sexually assaulting him. At the Monkey, Richie tells Harry to deal with Valjon while he listens to his gut. Olie Donker (Arnold Oceng) gives Harry a gun and reveals a bloody and battered Valjon. Harry hands Richie the gun, breaks off a piece of concrete block, and repeatedly stabs Valjon with it. He insists on cleaning up the mess and asks where the restroom is. Later, Harry notifies Kevin that Richie believes Valjon killed Tommy. Kevin thanks God and calls him a genius. Harry says Richie has asked that the Harrigans attend Tommy’s funeral. Kevin curses.
Mobland Review
Harry forces Antoine to turn over the records of Lord Pennock (Steven Pacey). He gives them to Bella who insists on keeping her deal with Antoine. He tries to stop her but she reminds him that he works for the Harrigans, including her.
Richie orders Harry to kill Valjon. Refusing a gun, Harry stabs Valjon to death with a piece of concrete block. Richie believes Valjon killed Tommy but insists the Harrigans attend Tommy’s funeral. Kevin isn’t keen on the idea.
Only Conrad and Harry knew where Archie’s body was buried. Maeve says the rat is Harry but he refuses to accept it. He pays Jan a visit and orders her to never talk about Harry to anyone other than family. When Harry learns about Conrad’s visit, he warns Jan of what will happen if Conrad gets going. He insists she stops going to therapy.
Alice is working with Fisk to bring down the Harrigans. At his persistence, she befriends Jan. He wants to take things further by getting intimately with Conrad.
