Trial And Error – The episode begins by showing how the Prevost Brothers got into crime and migrated from Quebec, Canada to The Valley. In the process, the oldest brother, Patrice Provost (Julien Heron), makes the youngest, John Provost take the wrap for something the family did. John ends up in prison with Hampton Chambers (David Oyelowo).
John tells Hampton that he will give him the money to pay off the debt he owes his family if he gives him his drill idea. Hampton disagrees and John threatens him. John also tells Hampton that he talked Patrice into giving him the extension. Later that night, Hampton sits down and works out a plan for his business.
The next morning, Hampton makes breakfast for the family and tells them they are going to start having meals together. He also tells Einstein (Evan Ellison) and Harrison Chambers (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) that they will be taking over yard work. He also asks Astoria Chambers (Simone Missick) on an afternoon date but she turns him down.
Hampton picks up an expensive bottle of Scotch from Bootsy (Bookem Woodbine). While he’s there Bootsy gives him an old car he can use but also tries talking him into robbing a temple. A temple with a carbon-proof safe that only Hampton’s drill can beat. Hampton turns down the job and leaves in the car.
Astoria is briefly shown speaking on the phone to someone about Hampton.
Hampton delivers the bottle of Scotch to Manfred ‘Manny’ Brinks (Jeremy Bobb). This works and Bit Magician becomes an approved vendor of Rocketcorp.
Hampton stops by his parole officer’s office. Todd Edelbrock gives him his exit check and tells him that he will begin road maintenance next week. Hampton also tells him that he needs money fast. Todd responds by giving him a slip of paper with an address on it. The address takes Hampton to a location where he fillets fish.
Harrison speaks out in school and curses. Astoria gets called in to handle the situation. Things do not go so well when she asks her boss for the time off.
Hampton makes it to the bank in time but learns that he is required to put up collateral for the business loan. Being that the home is in Astoria’s name, she will have to sign off on this. Before leaving, the loan officer gives him a free toaster even though he didn’t open an account. This gives him the idea to get several other free toasters by going around and opening accounts at various banks. He then takes the toasters and pawns them.
When Hampton arrives home to cook dinner he learns that Astoria is out with a guy named Ronald that she has been seeing. This is where the episode ends.
Government Cheeses Season 1 Review
This was another decent episode. I especially like Hampton’s scheming. Even though he isn’t a bumbling idiot he can’t help but make mistake after mistake. I would like to learn more about why he was in prison, which I am sure is something that the shows will likely cover. I would say that things will get so bad that Hampton won’t have any choice but to do the job with Bootsy. I’d have to give this episode a 5.6 out of 10.
