Brida urges Ragnar to avoid getting his men killed for Guthred. Finan (Mark Rowley) suggests they move in at night and take out Erik (Christian Hillborg) and Sigefrid (Bjorn Bengtsson). During this time, Sven (Ole Christoofer Ertvaag) warns his father that Uhtred and his army are in Northumbria.

Sven admits they only had around 50 men, but he is worried that number could climb quickly. Kjartan doesn’t care in the least. He remains convinced nobody will be able to break through their fortress. Sven visits Thyra (Julia Bache-Wiig). She commands her dogs to scare him away. That night, Uhtred and his men watch the Dane camp. With advice from Aethelwold, Uhtred quickly determines that Erik and Sigefrid must be in the center tent. He agrees to enter alone, but Finan and Steapa decide to tag along away. They quickly bring down the guards, while Uhtred sneaks into the tent alone. He gets into a scuffle with Sigefrid. After a brief fight, Uhtred slices off the Dane’s hand and takes him hostage. He exits the tent and finds himself surrounded by enemies.

Uhtred negotiates with Erik and agrees to spare his brother. Seconds later, Uhtred and Ragnar arrive in Eoferwic. They speak with Guthred (Thure Lindhardt). Guthred admits he is glad that Uhtred has recovered. He also insists it would be a major mistake to kill him. Sigefrid’s hand is presented to Guthred. Uthred threatens Guthred and confirms he will never be able to forgive him. Guthred asks for the Dane’s head. Ragnar demands that Guthred make a decision and pick a side. While Guthred is given time to consider his options, the others drink and eat. Brida remains convinced they should just slay the turd king. Then, they contemplate what to do with Kjartan’s fortress once they slay Kjartan. Ragnar doesn’t care, as long as Kjartan dies by his sword.

Aethelwold reminds the Danes that Alfred is in complete control and they work for him. He also reveals that Uhtred more than anyone else will help Alfred form his dream England. Guthred emerges and speaks with Uhtred in private. He admits he is a little afraid and envious, before offering up a half apology. He also insists he believes it was Uthred’s face that the abbot saw and he should have been king. Guthred also confesses he spared Uhtred by allowing him to become a slave. After learning about his sister, Guthred agrees to work with Uhtred. Uhtred tells Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravicius) that he lied to him. Uhtred reveals there is a side door at Dunholm. While it cannot fit an army, Uhtred is convinced it will help them break into the fortress. Seconds later, the group arrives outside.

They wait until night and prepare to separate. Ragnar and his men will storm the fortress from the front, while Uhtred will enter through the side. Uhtred and several of his men manage to snug against the wall, without attracting attention from the guards. In the morning, Brida admits today is the day they’ll get Kjartan or Valhalla. Hild (Eva Birthistle) reassures Uhtred, before they fire off the signal and it all begins. Ragnar and his men storm the fortress and try to break down the gate. At the same time, Uhtred and Hild break in through the side and begin fighting their enemies. Thyra overhears the chaos from her dungeon. Steapa eventually gets the gate open and the army is able to push back Kjartan and his men. Thyra sends her dogs after Sven. They leave his lifeless body on the ground. Kjartan notices this from outside.

Kjartan challenges Ragnar to a fight. The center is cleared and the two men square off with one another. It is a fierce battle, but Ragnar slays Kjartan. He repeatedly stabs the man’s lifeless body. Thyra emerges and threatens to send her dogs after Uhtred and Ragnar. However, Beocca manages to talk her out of it. That night, Ragnar and Uhtred discuss their futures. Uhtred confirms he will be headed back to Wessex otherwise Steapa would try to kill him. Ragnar agrees to rule the land alongside Brida. Beocca speaks with Thyra in private. He offers to help her. She seems to accept his offer. In the morning, goodbyes are said before Uhtred heads towards Wessex with his army.

The Last Kingdom Review

This was another excellent episode of The Last Kingdom. It had a little bit of everything, but was heavy on action and edge of your seat moments. It seems like the pace has been picked up significantly. I didn’t suspect Sven and Kjartan to be taken out this early on. Uhtred is one step closer towards achieving his destiny and slaying his uncle. The episode had me totally convinced that Ragnar wouldn’t make it out alive. Nevertheless, it still feels like something terrible hangs in the balance.

An 8.5 out of 10 is awarded to the episode. Catch up with past recaps of The Last Kingdom today!

House Husbands Review

The 5th season finale of House Husbands was a little cheesy here and there. Plus, the political correctness is starting to become overwhelming. Nevertheless, this was definitely the best episode of the season. Many of the outcomes were expected. It was highly unlikely that Justin would move back home and it was certain Lewis would find a way to save the school. However, I wasn’t expecting a return by Kane. That was a great way to end the season. This wasn’t the best season of the show and it is clear bringing Kane back would help significantly.

Despite a fairly underwhelming season, the finale was spot on. An 8 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of House Husbands immediately!

House Husbands Review

The 10th episode of House Husband’s 5th season was great. It solved the problem of Izzy’s attraction to Nick, while developing a friendship between the characters. Lewis also worked diligently to convince the locals he is the right man for the job. It seems he has succeeded with a little help from Gemma and Abi. And finally, Rafiq decided to move past his footy dreams. By spending time with Justin and his kids, it seems Rafiq has learned that family is more important than his career.

Margo tracks down her monk friend, Pavlos (Nick Oestis Chaniotakis). She makes a very untimely comment about her mosquito bites and God. When Louisa arrives home, she finds Vasilia in the kitchen. Finally, Spiros arrives at the market and agrees to show Louisa how to make a profit. It takes a little practice and a scenery change, but Louisa begins to make progress. They waste no time asking him about his feelings regarding marriage and women. During the meal, Gerald learns that the Petrides couple has borrowed Roger. The next day, Hugo meets Louisa at the market with a bottle of olive oil in tow. He confesses he was wrong. The olives turned out better than expected.

Margo hears singing nearby and pledges to become a nun. Gerald tells Leslie what he’ll need to begin breeding otters. Larry pays a visit to Vasilia and tells her to back off. Of course, she uses her womanhood to intimidate him. Gerald visits the clinic and learns about Roger being shot. While he is there, a woman rushes in complaining about a stomach ache. Gerald transports Roger back home, before ridiculing Leslie. The entire family once again turns their anger towards Leslie and his firearms. Margo visits Theo and inquires about the lives of Greek nuns. They speak about Pavlos, before Margo is shown several books. In several photographs, the nuns are playing football and having a good time. That night, Louisa visits Hugo. She is invited inside for a drink. Louisa is serenaded, before she learns that Hugo is Vasilia’s ex-boyfriend. She makes a hasty exit.

The situation turns into a disaster when Louisa returns home. As it turns out, her food has poisoned the entire community. She tries to make things right the very next day. She also becomes suspicious that Vasilia might’ve sabotaged the food. Meanwhile, Gerald and Theo set a trap for an otter. Louisa speaks with Florence and learns about Vasilia’s nasty reputation. Margo visits the church and learns about God from Pavlos. She becomes bored almost immediately. Gerald’s trap snags an otter. Larry receives a replacement typewriter, before Louisa returns home and prepares to defend herself from Vasilia. At this time, Gerald returns with the otter. Margo returns dressed partially like a nun. Then, Louisa trots outside with a rifle in both arms. The chaos of his family finally gives Larry his inspiration. He realizes the story has been sitting in front of him all this time.

Leslie emerges and reveals the invention he has created to help Roger walk again. Unexpectedly, Vasilia arrives at the door. Louisa pays the money that is owed and demands the furniture returned. After Vasilia leaves, it is revealed that Spiros helped pay the debt. Louisa gives him a box full of poison-free food as a thank you. Hugo arrives with flowers. It is clear Spiros doesn’t like the guy one bit. However, Larry continues to bask in the chaos.

The Durrells In Corfu Review

The Durrells gets a lot of flack for being unrealistic. The characters are certainly a little obnoxious, but I still find it difficult not to enjoy the show. It might not be totally realistic or true to the story, but it doesn’t matter in the least. The series is lighthearted and pleasant from beginning to end. Gerald is undoubtedly the most sympathetic character of all, but the others add humor and a little bit of stupidity to help keep things interesting. As the second series begins, Louisa finds a new bachelor and a new nemesis.

I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. The opener deserves a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of The Durrells in Corfu now!

Franky gets no help, but she does get a promise for another meeting with Bridget. Back at the prison, Don agrees to help Liz with the perjury charge. She is now looking at 15 years. Outside, Sonia basks in the glory of beating the system. Liz is returned to the prison at the end of the episode.

Wentworth Review

The 3rd episode of Wentworth Prison’s 5th season was pretty good. Franky continued her investigation and her fight for freedom. With help from Allie, she realized that Joan Ferguson wasn’t responsible for her downfall. Nevertheless, Bennett refuses to listen. Vera is deadest on keeping Ferguson in prison and out of her way. Despite trying to keep Bridget out of harm’s way, Franky has been unsuccessful this far. Vera and Bridget herself remain adamant that Franky needs her help.

Meanwhile, Kaz has already been caught up by a major mistake. She cut a deal with Tina to let drugs into the prison. That has backfired. At the beginning of the episode, we’re introduced to Offred (Elisabeth Moss). Her husband, Luke (O-T Fagbenle) crashes their vehicle. Luke remains behind as she runs off with her daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake), in her arms. Once Offred makes it into the woods, she hears a gunshot in the distance. It doesn’t take long for Offred and her daughter to be taken into custody. We watch as she is put on a stretcher and thrown into the back of a van. Seconds later, we jump over to her new residence. We hear Offred discuss her new life. She has lost everything, including her daughter, husband and her name. Seconds later, Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) enters and introduces herself as Offred’s new master. Serena is happy to learn that this will be Offred’s second posting, since the last maid was terrible.

Also, Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) introduces himself. He confirms he is Serena’s husband and Offred will be working for both of them. Serena makes it clear she wants to see Offred as little as possible. After the conversation ends, Offred heads downstairs. There, we see Rita (Amanda Brugel) making bread from scratch. Offred watches as the Commander brushes off his wife for work duties. Rita instructs Offred to head down to the shop and pick up oranges. As Offred steps outside, she runs into the Commander’s driver, Nick (Max Minghella). It is revealed that he is low of status and hasn’t been issued a woman yet. Offred steps outside of the gate and meets with Ofglen (Alexis Bledel). We learn that the women are required to walk in pairs for protection and spying purposes.

On their way to the store, Offred spots children being led around by armed guards. It is clear they remind her of her daughter. At the shop, Offred meets up with Oferic (Bahia Watson) and a few other girls. Offred learns that the Commander is really high up and often in the news. The girls grab their oranges. On the way back home, Offred and Ofglen find three hanged men. Among the men, there is a priest, doctor and a homosexual. Then, this reverts to a flashback. We see Offred’s first day at the facility. She spots an old friend Moira (Samira Wiley). The instructor, Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) tells the women that guard has punished them with infertility. She also insists God has blessed the remaining women with fertility. Lydia reveals that the women will serve the commanders and their wives. It will be their responsibility to bear their children.

Janine (Madeline Brewer) makes a few snide comments. She is given a shock and carried away. That night, Offred tells Moira about her capture. She admits she tried to run with her daughter, but it did no good. Moira gives her friend hope that she will get her daughter back and this craziness will end soon enough. A crying Janine is brought back and placed onto a bed. Her face is bandaged. It appears they’ve taken one of her eyes. Moira confirms eyes aren’t needed, as long as the women can still breed. We return to the present and Offred regains hope, since Moira isn’t among the hanged. When she returns home, she is forced to bath for the Ceremony. Then, we join a group session. Janine, who now has a patch over her eye, speaks about her past. She opens up about possibly being raped by a bunch of boys. Aunt Lydia blames Janine. We see Moira sitting beside of Offred.

Lydia encourages all of the girls to place the blame on Janine. They point and goad her. Then, we jump back to the present. Serena Joy and the others wait for the arrival of the Commander. Eventually, he arrives and reads from the bible. He has intercourse with Offred, while Serena assists. That night, Offred tries to come to grips with her situation. We see another flashback, in which Janine goes nuts. Offred and Moira do their best to calm her. The girl pleads for her mother. Back in the present, Offred recollects herself. In the morning, Offred confirms Nick saw her outside last night. She is surprised that the Eyes haven’t come for her yet. She wonders why Nick hasn’t told anyone. She hears three bells and reveals there is a salvaging today. Offred heads downstairs and Nick enters. Nick reveals that the Commander wants more oranges. This time, Offred manages to convince Rita to go.

Next, all of the girls meet. Offred speaks with Alma (Nina Kiri) about her posting. Offred speaks about Gabby, who had a miscarriage a few months ago. She admits she hasn’t heard from Moira. Janine rudely interrupts and declares that Moira is dead. She insists the girl tried to run away and was killed in response. The girls take their places, as Aunt Lydia takes the stage. Guards lead a man out and Lydia reveals he has been charged with rape. The women encircle him and beat him to death following Lydia’s orders. As Offred returns home, we see a flashback from the moment Moira learned that Offred was pregnant. Back in the present, Ofglen offers condolences to Offred for Moira. They approach a store. Ofglen admits it used to be an ice cream shop.

The girls become concerned when a black van passes by. Nevertheless, it ignores them. As they continue onward, Offred and Ofglen speak about their past lives and children. Once they return to Offred’s place, Ofglen tells her that her house has an Eye. Ofglen warns her to be careful. A very suspicious Offred steps inside and eyeballs everyone. Eventually, she is ordered to return to her room. Offred tells us that someone is always watching, so everything has to look the same. She is also adamant that she will survive for her daughter, Hannah. She states that her name is June.

The Handmaid’s Tale Recap

The Handmaid’s Tale received a lot of hype before its debut. The commercials definitely helped, since they looked great. Sadly, the first episode was very disappointing. I have not read the books, so I cannot compare the two. However, it feels like the television show doesn’t take itself serious. The inner dialogue from Offred was awkward at times and cheesy at others. Then, we have Ofglen speaking about how great sex is, despite being raped daily by her owner. And finally, the flashbacks made the episode very difficult to follow.

The Handmaid’s Tale is built on a solid premise. The show wants to be frightening, but it fell flat. The opener was unbalanced and unsure of itself. Where is the confidence one would expect from a show based on a novel? At least it is unique. A 6 out of 10 is deserved.

Uhtred pulls him aside and learns that Eilaf (Richard Clews) has enlisted Aethelwold’s help tracking him down. Aethelwold insists they both deserve more. After a brief chat, Uhtred speaks with Sihtric and gives him permission to get married. However, he needs to complete one task first. Aethelwold leads Uhtred and several men towards their destination. While they’re away, Beocca asks Thyra to marry him. She quickly accepts his offer.

He becomes frightened when Bjorn emerges once again. Uhtred speaks with his men and asks them whether or not they believe what they saw. They admit they do. Uhtred calls to Haesten and asks them whether or not Sigefrid and Erik really intend to attack Lunden. Haesten admits they do and they wish Uhtred to join them.

The Last Kingdom Review

The 5th episode of The Last Kingdom’s 2nd series was excellent, but very unexpected. The time jump was a little weird, but it ultimately worked well. The episode was a little slow on action, but deep on drama and intrigue. Uhtred has now found himself between a rock and a hard place. Alfred may be aware of his betrayal. Will this give him more reason to team up with the Danes? Will Sihtric’s information help convince Uhtred that the dead man was northing more than a charade? The next episode will force Uhtred to make a difficult decision.

The 5th episode scores an 8 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of The Last Kingdom right now!

Harlots Review

The 6th episode of Harlots brought the unexpected death of George Howard. While it is sad to see Howard go, it is highly likely that his murder will lead to severe consequences for Margaret and her girls. Now, everyone should realize that Lucy doesn’t have what it takes to be a harlot. Her sister is now free of her keeper and has decided to flee the area with Daniel. I sincerely doubt they’ll ever leave the area. As for Emily Lacey, it seems Lydia has terrible plans in store for her. The episode was good and pretty intense.

A 7.5 out of 10 is deserved. Be sure to check out our past recaps of Harlots right now!

Sigefrid likes the idea. He calls for Boltan (Sergej Onopko) to enter the makeshift arena. The fight begins. At first, it appears that Pyrlig will be no match for Boltan. Nevertheless, he manages to defeat the man. He leaves Boltan alive, but Sigefrid finishes him. Pyrlig drops his swords, ridicules the Danes and is eventually given his freedom. He agrees to leave with Uhtred. Again, Aethelred attempts to negotiate with Sigefrid. His offers are all refused.

Alfred asks Uhtred why the bothers referred to him as the next Lord of Mercia. Alfred lashes out at Uhtred for behaving like a spy. He also admits he doesn’t know Uhtred and likely never will. Alfred forces Uhtred to return to the inn, so he can devise an attack plan immediately. Aethelred and his comrade are pleased with the results. Aldhelm insists Uhtred’s behavior cannot go unpunished. Odda insists it is none of their business. Despite Odda’s wishes, Alfred demands Uhtred return to Coccham. Odda agrees to tell him personally.

Aethelflaed pulls back when he touches her face. Aethelred becomes suspicious that he was not the first. He accuses her of sleeping with Uhtred, before the argument becomes physical. Aethelflaed comes clean, but urges the others to keep the abuse a secret. After that, the group heads for Lunden. They separate into two groups and head for the city. Meanwhile, Erik and Sigefrid also begin carrying out their plan. Uhtred and his men enter the city. They find it suspiciously empty. They eventually catch up with Aethelred’s men. The Danes do not show themselves.

When she looks behind her, she sees heavily armed men approaching. She continues running as the episode ends.

The Last Kingdom Review

In the 6th episode of the second series of The Last Kingdom, Alfred’s plans fell apart. His distrust of Uhtred led him down a tumultuous path much like Guthred before him. On top of that, he has now sold his daughter to the devious Aethelred, who has hopes of overthrowing his father-in-law. Now, Aethelflaed will likely be captured by the Danish brothers, Erik and Sigefrid. Will Aethelred express true urgency to reclaim his new wife? Or will it be Uhtred that once again saves Alfred’s hide?

The episode was a little frustrating with Alfred’s inability to see the truth. It was also somewhat predictable, but enjoyable nevertheless. A 7.5 out of 10 is awarded to the episode. Our previous recaps for The Last Kingdom can be found here.

Sidney displays a newspaper revealing Linda Morgan is a widow. They concur she looks much different as a brunette. Felix learns about Linda’s previous marriage seconds later. Geordie watches as Larry tries to steal his wallet. That gives Geordie enough to take him to the station. In the interrogation room, Geordie quickly accuses Larry of killing Bill Davis. Larry admits he isn’t perfect, but denies killing anyone. Geordie refuses to believe the alibi provided by Larry’s girls. Larry suggests delving deeper into Bill’s son, Felix. Larry suggests Felix might’ve wanted to step out of his daddy’s shadow. Next, Geordie shows Sidney two rings found stuffed in Bill’s mouth.

Then, Geordie reveals a very similar murder occurred on Christmas of 1946. They were never able to find Charlie Parsons’ killer at the time. Geordie explains that Albert Tannen (Julian Glover) was their primary suspect. The man’s daughter was pregnant and had planned to marry Charlie. Albert wasn’t willing to accept it. While Albert was arrested and questioned, the charges never stuck. They visit the man’s toyshop seconds later. Albert is asked for an alibi for Friday night. During this time, a young boy, Neville Grant (Frankie Fox), peers through the window. The troublemaker is quickly rushed away. Then, Albert admits they tried to ruin his life once before. He suggests they have proof this time. After they leave, they quickly visit Albert’s daughter, Gail (Mariah Gale). She is told about the new murder. Gail quickly accuses her father. Sidney walks her home and agrees not to tell Gail. He also learns that they visit the shop everyday. However, Albert wasn’t there last Friday. Back at home, Geordie’s daughter asks what a womb is, before Cathy unveils their new television. Geordie isn’t happy and suggests taking it back immediately. They visit the shop together and find a bloodied Albert on the floor. A note reading “confess” is found nearby. Edward Kendall (Pip Torrens) finally arrives and meets with Amanda. It is clear he is not happy at all. He admits Guy would accept Amanda back, but she has no intention of returning. He encourages her to apologize. She refuses. Edward leaves with haste. Sidney and Geordie speak with Gail. She is asked about having keys to the toyshop. She insists she wasn’t involved. Before they leave, Gail gives the teddy bear back to Sidney and tells him to stay away from Jessica. Geordie and Sidney contemplate the case, but are no closer to finding the culprit. They all meet at the church for the Nativity. It turns out to be a major disaster. Amanda decides to leave her aunt’s house.

Geordie and Sidney speak with Neville. The boy admits he liked his job, but was fired unexpectedly by Albert. He also confesses to writing the confess note, because he had heard the rumors about his old boss. Once they return to Albert’s shop, they find a tool, which they believe could’ve made the scratches on the door. Albert is immediately taken down to the police station. Meanwhile, Amanda cannot find a place to stay. She sits on a bench in the snow. Leonard joins her seconds later. They sit down and discuss their current woes. Amanda pretends she needs to catch a train. Leonard calls her out on the lie and demands she return home with him. At that seconds, Amanda goes into labor. She is escorted home, where Mrs. Maguire tries to get things under control. Geordie and Sidney speak with Felix and Linda at the station. They confirm Tannen is in custody for Bill’s murder.

After that, Phil enters and tells Sidney about the situation. Leonard informs Maguire and Amanda that the doctor and midwife are both out of town. Eventually, Sidney rushes out. Geordie follows with alcohol in hand. Sidney admits he is worried about the future. Geordie convinces him that everything will be fine. Once they return home, Geordie passes out on the couch. Sidney looks through old photographs and something clicks. He wakes up Geordie and exclaims that someone spurned carried out the murders. He insists it has to be the redhead, Linda. Leonard rushes downstairs for a drink, before we hear the baby cry from upstairs.

Sidney enters. Amanda speaks to Grace and tells her that Sidney is one of the good ones. In the morning, Sidney sits with the baby, while telling her about Bechet. Geordie and his comrades head for the club to pick up Linda. Sidney realizes that the woman has likely already fled. He calls the station and informs Margaret Ward (Seline Hizli). Linda is captured after boarding a bus. Geordie questions her. He insists Linda put the rings in the men’s mouths as an act of anger for their disappointment. He eventually learns Linda to be with his friends and family. Later, Geordie takes Jessica and Gail to see Albert. The Christmas party begins. Amanda admits she is concerned for the future. Sidney takes her under the mistletoe for a kiss and reassurance.

Grantchester Review

The Christmas special of Grantchester was great. It followed up with the previous season and delved deeper into the budding relationship between Amanda and Sidney. We also learned that Sidney has seemingly agreed to care for Guy’s child, who was born in this episode. The murder case was very similar to Sidney’s own situation. It took a lot of effort, but Sidney and Geordie managed to solve the crime. In doing so, they set Albert Tannen free from suspicion and reunited him with his daughter and granddaughter.

The episode had the perfect combination of intrigue, emotion and humor. Now, I cannot wait to get started on the 3rd season. The Christmas special scores a 9 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Grantchester right away!

Z Nation Review

The second season of Z Nation went out on a high note. The departure of Murphy brought the emotions. We also got plenty of action with the showdown between Warren’s group and La Reina. The return of Escorpion was certainly unexpected. Could Hector now become a key asset for Warren and her team? Fans of Z Nation will definitely want to stick around for season 3 to discover the truth about 10K’s fate. The episode deserves a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Z Nation now.

This series of Wentworth has been a bit mediocre. However, this episode was far, far better. We finally learned the truth about Sonia and her relationship with Don. Liz is still oblivious to their relationship and her betrayal. While Franky plans an escape, Ferguson begins building an army to fight against Kaz. Meanwhile, Jake continues digging himself deeper into a dangerous situation.

It feels like we’re building up to something big. Will it be a prison escape, an all-out war or a combination of both? The upcoming episodes should be interesting. This one scores an 8 out of 10. Catch up with older recaps of Wentworth now!

She also hopes their relationship can be different in the future. The Freak watches them. She maliciously states “now is the time” as the episode ends.

Wentworth Review

The 5th episode of Wentworth’s 5th series was a little shaky at times. Franky’s daring escape attempt was slightly ridiculous. She had little to no trouble getting the pass card and loosening the lug nuts with that tiny little wrench was unfathomable. Despite the show becoming very unbelievable, the episode was pretty good. The near-death of Will was pretty intense. Now that he has proven to be trustworthy, he will most likely team up with Kaz. Who knows what Allie is up to? While she is adamant she will not use drugs again, she has been desperate to get her hands on heroin.

Is she planning to give Ferguson a hotshot? With the Freak growing ever stronger, Kaz and Allie will need to stop her pretty soon or suffer miserably. Despite a few ludicrous moments, the 5th episode was pretty good. A 7.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Wentworth right now!

Uhtred consults with Sigefrid, before Aethelred begins offering money. Erik uses the opportunity to belittle the king. Eventually, Aethelflaed is marched outside and given a chance to speak with her husband. She admits she is being treated well and has not been touched. Aethelred tells her to ignore his upcoming comments. He offers 100 pounds of silver to the Danes and nothing more. Sigefrid yells for Weland. The massive brute of a man approaches. He follows Sigefrid’s order and knocks Aethelred out cold. Pyrlig (Cavan Clerkin), Uhtred and Aldhelm head inside to negotiate with Erik and Sigefrid. After a little back and forth, Sigefrid demands 10,000 pounds of silver and 1,000 pounds of gold.

They eventually come to a fairer agreement. Aethelred wakes up naked in the pigpen. He enters the bar and is covered up by Aldhelm. Aethelflaed is given time to pray, while Uhtred speaks with Erik alone. Uhtred makes it clear he knows about Erik’s feelings for the girl. Erik doesn’t deny it. He also admits he cannot let her go. Then, Uhtred speaks with Aethelflaed in private. She admits she doesn’t want to come home. Uhtred tries to convince her that her relationship with Erik will fail. Aethelflaed pleads with Uhtred to help her escape with Erik. He insists Alfred would have them both killed. Again, she pleads with Uhtred to save her life, as well as the nations of Wessex and Mercia with it. The episode ends before Uhtred can give an answer.

The Last Kingdom Review

The second season of The Last Kingdom has been really solid. There have been plenty of twist and turns, as well as a lot of action and humor. Now, Uhtred has a big decision to make. It is clear he is torn between his loyalty to Alfred and his desire to help Aethelflaed escape her horrible husband. Aethelred has proven to be unreliable, yet Alfred sees the man as his key to Mercia. Alfred has been blinded by his passion to unite the kingdoms and he has paid dearly for his mistake. Plus, we have Sihtric playing spy and Odda up to god knows what.

The finale should be good. This episode was great. It was nice to see Alfred and Aelswith forced to grovel for Uhtred’s help. An 8.5 out of 10 is deserved. Previous recaps of The Last Kingdom are available now.

As the finale begins, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) and his men head for Winchester. Along the way, Pyrlig (Cavan Clerkin) tells the men that it is love that allows a man to fight for his country. Once they arrive, Uhtred quickly reassures Alfred (David Dawson) that his daughter is simply too valuable to be killed by the Danes. However, he admits they would likely humiliate her. Alfred fears that Wessex’s dignity could be at sake. Odda (Simon Kunz) questions how many men would he allow to die to protect its dignity. Alfred makes plans to pay the ransom, but he is also willing to go to battle if necessary. Aethelred (Toby Regbo) confirms he will support Alfred’s decision. Once the conversation ends, Odda makes it clear he believes something else should be done. Uhtred insists it is best to do nothing for the time being. Erik (Christian Hillborg) tells Dagfinn (Simon Krogh Stenspil) to leave his post, so he can visit Aethelflaed.

Once everyone is ordered outside, Erik and Aethelflaed (Millie Brady) write a letter to Uhtred. Sigefrid (Bjorn Bengtsson) returns after raiding lands in Wessex. He promises a slave woman (Sarah Broadbent) to Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen). Erik hands the letter to Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravicius) and asks him to deliver it to Uhtred. That night, Uhtred confirms to Gisela (Peri Baumeister) that he intends to help Aethelflaed and Erik, despite the repercussions he could face. He admits it would look like a betrayal in Alfred’s eyes, so he would likely flee the area. The next day, the residents of Wessex are ordered to contribute to the ransom. Odda finds a former soldier and introduces him to Alfred. Along with Odda, the man confirms the Danes have begun raiding Wessex. They have also taken the man’s wife and daughters. Again, Odda questions Alfred’s judgment and insists they cannot expect the citizens to give up more.

Alfred lashes out at his friend. It is agreed that Odda will return to his estate and wife at Devonshire. Aethelwold (Harry McEntire) looks through the ransom stash. He admits the citizens pay for the swords that will be used against them. Alfred enters seconds later. They speak about Aethelwold’s father. Then, Aethelwold sits down with Odda. Aethelwold finally admits he does not agree with the payment. He also confirms he would raise a fyrd, if he could. Later that night, Uhtred, Osferth (Ewan Mitchell), and Finan (Mark Rowley) are forced to deal with a drunken Odda. He is transported inside and Osferth is ordered to watch over him. Odda mentions raising Devonshire’s army against the Danes. He hits the bed and says nothing more. In the morning, Odda wakes up alongside Osferth and Clapa (Magnus Samuelsson). Sihtric delivers the letter to Uhtred. He tells Sihtric and Finan about Erik’s plan to escape.

Gisela expresses concern that the Danes will follow Uhtred and his men. He suggests they’ll follow the silver, Aethelflaed. As Odda prepares to leave Winchester, he watches the silver being carried out of the castle. Uhtred speaks with Pyrlig and learns he will be Alfred’s spy at Devonshire. He also pleads with Uhtred to stop Odda from doing anything rash. Odda arrives seconds later and Uhtred tries to convince him to do nothing. Odda pretends he has already forgotten the plan. Alfred speaks with Aelswith (Eliza Butterworth) and asks if he is selfish for trying to spare Aethelflaed. Aelswith admits she doesn’t believe so, since Aethelflaed is Wessex. Haesten makes comments to Sigefrid and this leads to the removal of Aethelflaed. Erik becomes panicked when he finds her missing. He rushes to the hall and finds her hoisted above the floor in a cage. As Odda and Pyrlig approach Devonshire, they see the army marching. Odda admits he knows Pyrlig is a spy for Alfred.

Pyrlig is sent back to Winchester to inform Alfred. The slave woman, who was promised to Haesten, gives Aethelflaed water. She does not respond when asked her name. Erik learns through Dagfinn that his men are beginning to distrust him. Sigefrid arrives seconds later. Erik complains that his brother has made a fool of him. Sigefrid uses the opportunity to try and get his brother back on track with the initial plan. Extra guards are placed outside, while Dagfinn insists Erik needs to show where his loyalties lie. As Pyrlig rushes back to Winchester, he gets a lift from Aldhelm (James Northcote) and Aethelred). As Uhtred and his men prepare to head for Beamfleot, Osferth expresses his fear. Uhtred tries to give him confidence and promises to get him an axe, since it will be easier to wield. Mercia’s share of silver is taken to Alfred’s chamber. At this time, Pyrlig informs Alfred about Odda’s army.

Alfred curses his old comrade. He also learns that Uhtred has gone missing. He immediately puts a plan into action to stop Odda. Odda’s army continues their journey, while Uhtred’s small group sails for Beamfleot. Erik enters the hall and orders the new slave girl to leave with him. He returns later and tells the others that she is his and his alone. Sihtric admits something is fishy, as soon as he spots the extra guards. Erik regains trust from the others, before they prepare to drink throughout the night. The slave girl tells Aethelflaed to have faith and that it is happening tonight. Alfred’s men strike. Osferth immediately freezes, but he does manage to finish off a half dead man on the ground. Again, Uhtred tells him to man up or return to the shrine. Alfred’s army is halted, as it nears Odda. Meanwhile, Uhtred is forced to make a decision. Despite his friend’s wishes and concerns, he insists they visit the hall. Sihtric manages to get Erik’s attention. This time, Erik admits their escape plan is hopeless.

Nevertheless, Uhtred refuses to listen. He comes up with a plan. Parts of the town are set ablaze. The slave woman is sent out on horseback. The Danes chase after her immediately and this leaves the hall wide open. Sihtric and Clapa lower Aethelflaed and help her escape. Sigefrid returns and fights with Erik. Sigefrid stabs his brother. He tells Erik that he has killed them both. This gives Uhtred and his team enough time to flee the city. Clapa keeps the Danes busy, while Uhtred and the others jump on their horses. Sigefrid emerges and gives chase with Haesten right behind him. Odda confronts Alfred. He explains that the Northmen will expect a fight. Before things can get bloody, Uhtred and Aethelflaed are seen in the distance. The two armies team up to take down Sigefrid and his men. Haesten conveniently heads in the opposite direction. As soon as the battle begins, Uhtred is knocked to the ground and stunned. When he gets up, he challenges Sigefrid.

Uhtred gets the better of his enemy and Aethelflaed finishes him off from behind. Alfred’s army is victorious. As we return to Winchester, we see Aethelwold carrying an item wrapped in cloth. Aethelflaed speaks with Uhtred and thanks him for his help. She also pleads for his help should she need to fight off her husband in the future. Uhtred agrees. Aethelflaed admits she might be pregnant with Erik’s baby. After Aethelflaed gives Uhtred a kiss on the cheek, she leaves and Alfred enters. Uhtred and Alfred discuss Odda’s fate. Alfred makes it clear he intends to have him tried for treason. Before Uhtred leaves, he is reminded that he still owes Alfred. Aethelwold visits Odda, who is locked in a cell. He gives him the concealed item and confirms Devonshire was beautiful.

odda the elder the last kingdom

Once Aethelwold leaves, Odda unwraps a knife and takes his own life. Through a narration, Uhtred admits Lord Odda saving Wessex will never be written. However, he intends to make it known. He also confirms his actions have made King Alfred stronger than ever. We see Haesten ruling over Beamfleot, after Sigefrid’s defeat. Uhtred realizes his sword is Saxon and he is shackled to Mercia and Wessex. While he intends to help Alfred unite the kingdoms, he has not forgotten about Bebbanburg.

The Last Kingdom Review

The Last Kingdom’s season series finale was magnificent. Erik sacrificing himself for Aethelflaed was a little predictable, but it was still effective. Odda was the hero of the episode, yet he was destined to pay dearly for his heroic actions. Again, Aethelwold’s interactions with Odda have proven Aethelwold to be wiser than anyone could imagine. Despite once again saving Wessex and Alfred, Uhtred remains indebted to the King.

The journey shall continue. This season was great from start to finish. I sincerely hope we get a 3rd season of The Last Kingdom. There are still plenty of storylines to explore. The finale scores an 8.5 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of The Last Kingdom!

Margo does as well. It is clear the alcohol is entirely too strong. Nevertheless, Margo chugs it down like a champion. Spiros visits Gerald, who has been unable to get the otters to mate. Seconds later, Louisa convinces Spiros to become Gerald’s tutor. It quickly goes awry. Louisa overhears Spiros being too harsh on her son. In the classroom, Spiros goes a little too far and Gerald sheds a tear. Spiros apologizes and learns about Gerald’s teachers back home.

Theo returns from the post office. He admits he thought it was strange that the family had no mail, so he investigated. Apparently, the postman was arrive of Gerald dog, so he never delivered the family’s mail. Theo hands over several letters. Larry rips them open and finds out that people are praising his work. Louisa visits and scolds Hugh for not attending. Meanwhile, Larry returns home and celebrates with the others.

They mistake it for a donation and take it with nothing in return. Hugh tracks down Louisa. She expresses her sorrow that Larry has moved out. Hugh makes it clear that he will come to his sense soon enough. Hugh takes her to a quiet location and makes her a steak. The next day, Louisa is the one who is hungover. Theo and Gerald try to determine whether or not the female otter is pregnant.

Seconds later, Mr. Kralefsky (Vernon Dobtcheff) is invited inside. Louisa reveals that Kralefsky has agreed to be Gerald’s tutor. He gives Gerald a whole stack of reading materials. Florence pays Louisa a visit and explains she couldn’t make it to Larry’s book reading, because she was sick. She reveals the sickness is related to her pregnancy. Meanwhile, we see that Larry’s new place is a total disaster. He heads outside. Vasilia asks him to buy her a drink.

The Durrells In Corfu Review

This episode of Durrells In Corfu was fun. Some of Louisa’s comments about her abilities as a mother felt like they were directed towards the viewer. Louisa might not be the most attentive mother, but it is clear that she does indeed care. That was evident this episode when Larry decided to move out. Also, Louisa attempted to find Gerald a decent tutor. Spiros was terrible and needed to be replaced. How will Mr. Kralefsky fare? Finally, it appears the relationship between Hugh Jarvis and Louisa is beginning to strengthen.

That could lead to a future showdown between Louisa and Vasilia. The episode was enjoyable from start to finish. It scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of The Durrells in Corfu now!

When Larry finally arrives, Louisa complains that he is too late and dashes off with haste. Louisa tells Margo what she wants to do with her birthday money, while Leslie prepares his camera. When Margo poses for Leslie, he reveals she has spots. She looks in the mirror and freaks out. With pimples, she will never be able to get a man.

During this time, Margo visits with her brother. They agree that Louisa uses food to maintain power over her kids. Margo freaks out, because he has several new spots on her face. Larry tells his sister about Vasilia’s visit. Margo urges her brother to do the right thing and stay away from her. Louisa tries to change her attitude. She stands up in Spiros’ car and lets the wind blow through her hair. Once Louisa arrives in town, she spots Sven with his new lady friend. Gerald enjoys another tutoring session. He wisely changes the subject and asks Mr. Kralefsky to tell him more about himself. Hugh visits the shop only to find Leslie.

Surprisingly, Mr. Kralefsky leads him into a room, where he meets Mother Kralefsky (Eve Pearce). That night, Louisa shows off her more youthful wardrobe, while Margo tries to hide her spots. Vasilia visits Larry again. He is unable to resist and winds up sleeping with his mother’s nemesis. In the morning, Margo gives her mother a birthday dress, which she absolutely hates. Nevertheless, she agrees to wear it out in public. Mr. Kralefsky tells Gerald about his younger days and wrestling another guy for a woman. He tries to demonstrate his moves and Gerald winds up flooring him.

Louisa rushes into town. She winds up splitting the back of the dress, before finding Lawrence in bed with Vasilia. This leads to an instant argument. Vasilia makes sure Louisa is aware of her split dress. Next, Gerald tells his mother about Kralefsky’s injury. Visilia visits. She offers Louisa a deal. She agrees to stop seeing Larry as long as Louisa gives up on Hugh.

Louisa also pays the month’s rent. Louisa visits Sven and finds him with a man and a woman. Sven chases her down. He confirms Rosalint is an old friend from Sweden. Mr. Kralefsky visits Louisa and gives her an update about Gerald’s studies. That night, Leslie shows off his photographs to his mother. She isn’t impressed. She blames herself and admits she looks ghastly. Nevertheless, Leslie continues plowing forward with his hobby. The next day, Hugh brings Louisa flowers and apologizes for delving into her history with Sven.

At this time, Hugh learns about Vasilia’s offer. He pleads with Louisa to ignore it. Leslie enters and tells his mother they’re going to give the birthday picnic another go. Donald (Ben Hall) returns. He immediately asks about Margo. Louisa agrees to let Donald stay, until Larry returns. Donald learns about Margo’s spot. He also agrees to become Gerald’s tutor. Later, the group sings and dances for Louisa’s birthday. She tells Hugh that she has won, since Vasilia took a younger man to feel better about herself. After things calm down, Leslie gets everyone together for a group photo. Before the picture is taken, Larry reveals he plans to marry Vasilia.

The Durrells In Corfu Review

The 3rd episode of The Durrells intensified the showdown between Vasilia and Louisa. Since Vasilia couldn’t control Hugh, she decided to target Louisa using Lawrence. It is highly unlikely that Larry and Vasilia will get married. Nevertheless, Vasilia will definitely use the possibility of a marriage to her advantage. Also, Sven succumbed to his feelings and has decided to dedicate himself to his lover. I am glad he isn’t going to get together with Louisa.

As for Gerald, he has lost yet another tutor. The return of Donald could potentially solve two problems. It gives Gerald another tutor, while also fulfilling Margo’s desire for a boyfriend. The episode was slightly aimless, but fun nevertheless. A 7 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of The Durrells in Corfu now!

Grantchester Review

It is nice to see Grantchester back. The 3rd season started off strong and took a dark turn. The murder of Dr. Atwell involved Sidney personally. The case had many parallels with Sidney’s own personal life and his relationship with Grace and Amanda. Like Patrick, Sidney knew he wouldn’t be able to hold onto Grace and was ultimately forced to give her up to Guy. In doing so, it appears Sidney and Amanda’s relationship was probably short lived.

The episode also confirmed that Leonard’s sexuality will likely take center stage this season. Will the Archdeacon allow Leonard to continue serving his parish, if he learns about his sexuality? And finally, Geordie’s marriage has hit a speedbump in the form of Margaret Ward. This season has a lot to cover. The pilot episode was great and deserves an 8 out of 10. Grantchester Review

The 2nd episode of Grantchester’s 3rd series was great. The episode started out fun with a game of cricket. Then, things went awry when the men were poisoned with arsenic. The mystery unraveled at a great pace, while the episode simultaneously explored the personal problems faced by the main characters. Much like the relationship between Annie and Zafar, Sidney, Leonard and Geordie have been living fantasy lives.

Sidney’s unrealistic relationship with Amanda has likely come to an end. At first, it looked like Geordie would change his ways. However, he succumbed to his urges and slept with Margaret once again. His decision will likely come back to haunt him soon enough. Leonard is doing his best to enter into a more acceptable relationship with Hilary. Will he be able to push his true feelings aside for the long term?

The episode was great as always. An 8.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Grantchester now!
