Jamestown Review

The 5th episode of Jamestown pushed the main storylines forward very quickly. Henry and Davie have moved so much closer to their fortune or their demise. James Read finally confirmed his suspicion that Henry isn’t dead after all. Silas is now in a bind. Christopher proved himself to be a worthy doctor and ended up saving the Governor’s life in the process. Redwick and Farlow nearly had the opportunity to gain control of Jamestown, but the opportunity almost destroyed their own relationship. Neither man fully trusts the other and that could lead to their ultimate downfall.

As for Jocelyn, she’ll need to act quickly, if he wants to keep her secret. Thus far, all major attempts to change the structure of Jamestown have been thwarted by one thing or another. With so much turmoil and infighting, it may only be a matter of time before the town explodes. The scheming between the main characters made the episode well worth the watch. A 7.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Jamestown right away.

Franky is formally charged with Iman’s murder. At the end of the episode, Jake visits Ferguson in the library. He questions her about Iman’s murder. Ferguson admits it had the desired effect.

Wentworth Review

The 10th episode was likely the best of the season. Well, it was the best of the season, until Ferguson entered Franky’s cell and tossed Iman around like Jason Voorhees. Despite Ferguson’s superhuman strength being totally unrealistic and cheesy, the episode did a good job of creating interest. Something big needs to happen as soon as possible. Many of the storylines are starting to drag on for far too long. Thankfully, this episode seems to have pushed things in the right direction.

Vera is out as governor, Ferguson is planning something big, and Franky likely has nothing to lose. Is it time for Franky, Kaz, Will, and Allie to attack Ferguson? It feels like we’re building up to a big climax. The season truly hinges on its upcoming finale. Last season was disappointing and the finale did it no favors. Hopefully this one will be different. A strong finale could persuade viewers to tune in next time around.

However, I cannot see the writers killing off Ferguson. She has become the central figure of the show, while the remaining characters have been left in her shadow. It’ll be interesting to see how things play out. The 10th episode scores an 8 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of Wentworth now!

Kelly seems stunned to discover the boy had just attended footie practice. Then, he asks about CCTV footage from the pub. She admits they’re checking it out. Kelly inspects a vehicle, which was also shot. Kevin Moody (Michael Moran) arrives outside of a home and heads inside. He meets with Sean Mercer (Paddy Rowan). Kelly also remains suspicious that Owen could be involved in a gang. The Jones family returns home that night. The trio heads to Rhys’s bedroom. Back at the station, Kelly begins assembling his team and setting up the workstation. Kevin gets a visit from Dean Kelly (Jack McMullen). Dean retrieves the gun and hides it in Kevin’s attic. He promises to get it once everything calms down. Meanwhile, Kelly and the other detectives look at CCTV footage. The video is blurry and very unhelpful. It gives Kelly the impression that the shooter was aiming for two other boys nearby. The detectives discuss the possibility of gangs being involved. Then, they mention Sean Mercer, Nathan Quinn and Marvis Perry as being potential suspects. James Yates is mentioned as a possible supplier of the gun.

That night, Detective Kelly speaks with his boss. She admits he was picked as SIO, because they thought he would close the case quickly. Kelly makes it clear that he doesn’t intend to rush anything. He admits he wants concrete evidence. In the morning, detectives take the top suspects into custody. All of the boys respond to all questions with no comment. Sean submits a prepared statement at his attorney’s request. He answers a question about his bike, before giving a no comment. Next, the Jones family heads to a footie game. Kevin and his family leave town. Dean waves them goodbye. The entire stadium claps in honor of Rhys. The suspects are allowed to leave the police station.

That night, the detectives listen to James Yates (James Nelson-Joyce) speak with his parents through a wiretap. He is told to say nothing and he’ll remain in the clear. It is also confirmed that nobody will speak, since they will not want to put themselves in harm’s way.

Little Boy Blue Review

I am not familiar with the real life story, so everything is new to me. Nevertheless, Little Boy Blue is shaping up to be something spectacular. Thus far, the acting has been excellent. The episode was so well acted and well written that it was very easy to sympathize with the Jones family. The series feels authentic and that makes it even more heartbreaking. Simultaneously, the bizarre attitudes of the suspects are perplexing.

It is clear the Kevin is the weak link. However, the nature and motive of the shooting are still unknown. I cannot wait to find out what happens next. The first episode deserves an 8.5 out of 10.

The White Princess Review

The 5th episode of The White Princess was good, despite a few glaring blunders. First and foremost, the show and its predecessors have done a terrible job with time jumps. Several characters do age, but most do not. Despite Teddy and Richard reaching their teens, Henry, Margaret, Jasper, Elizabeth, and Lizzie didn’t look a day older. You’d think those involved would’ve learned from their past mistakes.

Also, the murder of Jasper Tudor felt lame. This could be contributed to the original material. The act may have been effective in the book, but it fell flat here. It should have worked, but it didn’t. Nevertheless, the episode wasn’t bad. While it wasn’t easy, Maggie proved her loyalty to Henry. Lizzie has moved herself closer to Henry. And of course, it seems Henry and his mother are slowly losing control over the kingdom.

Henry’s remaining grasp over the Kingdom could slip away when Lizzie and the others realize Richard is indeed Richard of York. The episode scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of The White Princess right now!

DCI Mark Guinness (Stephen Walters) reveals that the investigator doesn’t believe the gun found in the attic was used to kill Rhys. Dave suffers a stunning setback.

Little Boy Blue Review

The episode wasn’t action packed, but it was gripping nevertheless. Watching the investigation unfold and the suspects crumble was fascinating. There were some real edge of your seat moments. Each character has their own dynamic personality. Kevin and Jordan seemingly come from good families, yet they’ve found themselves neck deep in a murder investigation. Jordan didn’t squeal, but his mother did. Kevin gave up evidence immediately and seems to be willing to tell even more.

However, the detectives have hit a roadblock. Ballistics evidence suggests the gun in the attic isn’t the murder weapon. Why hide it so well and why did Dean also stash ammunition in the attic? Meanwhile, Mel and Steve continue to grieve. Their relationship is slowly deteriorating and it may never recover. Bringing a suspect to justice may not save their marriage. The episode was fantastic. An 8.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Little Boy Blue right now!

Mark believes Mercer was brought to the building on the day of the murder to get rid of his evidence. In the middle of the search, Dave gets a call from Gallan pressuring him to arrest Dean Kelly. Dave makes it clear that doing so would be a major mistake. Back at home, Mel speaks with Owen. He admits the teachers didn’t ask about her. Much to Mark’s dismay, Dave isn’t interested. Dave admits he wants to get Yates and his parents too.

Little Boy Blue Review

The 3rd episode of Little Boy Blue was excellent just like the previous 2. While the series is definitely a slow burner, it unravels in the most intriguing fashion. Just when it seems like Dave has solved the case, a big revelation is made and he is forced to start over from the beginning. At this point, I am expecting another big twist in the finale. Again, I am unfamiliar with the real case, so everything is new to me. I would assume this makes the series more mysterious.

Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that Mercer and his young punk friends have terrorized the community for far too long. This is not uncommon in the United States either. In fact, such cases undoubtedly happen too frequently. This makes Little Boy Blue a perfect representation of modern society. The series is well balanced and brings a little of everything. It is dramatically grueling watching the Jones family deal with their grief. The stupidity and cocky attitudes of the suspects bring a little humor to the series.

All in all, the episode was great. An 8.5 is awarded to episode 3. Catch up with past recaps of Little Boy Blue now!

In the courtroom, Dave points out the suspects and their family members. He also confirms he plans to go after the parents, once this trial is settled. Seconds later, the boys are led into the courtroom. They are all cocky, except for Jordan. He mouths the words I am sorry to Mel. The boys laugh and make jokes as the opening statements begin. After the opening statements, the medical examiner tells the jury about Rhys’s body and his injuries. Mel steps outside to recollect herself. She is followed by the police liaison officer (Vanessa Emme). The officer tries to comfort Mel.

The defense attorney makes it clear the she is a drunk and should not be trusted. That night, Mel and Steve (Brian F. O’Byrne) chat about the jury. Mel is concerned that some members are young and might be inclined to believe the defendants. The following day, a detective tells the courtroom about the conversations between the Yates family. He admits he cannot positively make out the word gun in one of Yates’s statements. This puts a smile on James Yates’s (James Nelson-Joyce) face. During a break, Jackie Carter (Jodie McNee) speaks with Mel. She relays a message from the judge, telling Mel that she must stop her crying in the courtroom, since it could impact the jury.

When questioned by the defense, he is forced to admit that the gun may not be the murder weapon. Dave consults with Mel and Steve outside the courtroom. He tells them that the judge is doing them a favor by forcing Mel to show restraint, since it will force the jury to focus on the actions of the defendants. That night, Mel and Steve share dinner with Owen (Matthew Roberts). Owen reveals online rumors suggest Sean Mercer (Paddy Rowan) will never go down. The following day, Jordan is kept out of the courtroom, so Claire Olssen (Faye McKeever) can testify. Claire sticks with her original statement, which puts the boys at her house on the day of the crime.

He asks Steve what they’re doing here, before exiting. When Steve tells Mel later, she insists Steve should’ve bashed him. Next, the courtroom is prepared for Kevin’s testimony. The boy is questioned through a live stream. Again, Kevin (Michael Moran) sticks with his original testimony. The defense attorney asks him about the pictures and chat logs on his computer. This makes Kevin’s credibility questionable. Later, Mel admits there were holes in his testimony, but she mostly believed his story. After Kevin’s testimony ends, the lawyers give their closing statements. That night, Kevin is escorted to his mother’s house. He admits it was horrible and nobody believed it.

Dave speaks with the journalists outside of the courtroom. Steve, Owen and Mel sit on Rhys’s bed and reflect on the trial. Despite it being over, Mel is unable to move forward. She receives a visit from Debra (Elizabeth Berrington), who forces her to take a shower. Then, Mel admits she feels like she doesn’t have anything to live for. She also confirms she cannot move, because it would feel like they were abandoning Rhys. Later, Mel and Steve visit the boy’s grave. Steve reveals he spoke with work about letting Mel come back. Mel doesn’t know whether or not she is ready to return just yet. Dave heads to work and has a chat with Pat Gallan (Sara Powell).

There is a stark difference in Mel at this point. She tells Dave about her split with Steve, but admits they’ve been working things out. It is revealed that Dave has retired from the force. Then, Mel breaks down after admitting she misses Rhys so much. Dave comforts her, before heading home. Dave cries in his kitchen before putting on his muscle apron and heading outside with his family. At the end of the episode, we learn about the suspects and their sentences.

  • Sean Mercer sentenced to life in prison with a recommendation of 22 years minimum
  • James Yate sentenced to 7 years, but later increased to 12 on appeal
  • Nathan Quinn, Dean Kelly, Gary Kays and Melvyn Coy also went to prison
  • Sean Mercer’s mother, Jeanette, and Yates’ parents received prison sentences

We also learn that Mel and Steve got back together. They remain close friends with Dave Kelly.

Little Boy Blue Review

The finale of Little Boy Blue didn’t produce too many twists and turns. Nevertheless, the episode was equally gripping and depressing. Dave Kelly’s big gamble paid off in the long run. Thanks to his persistence or perhaps stubbornness, everyone involved was punished. Still, his work was largely ignored by the police department. He didn’t receive the promotion that he rightfully deserved. Ultimately, this led to his early retirement.

Despite some speedbumps along the way, Mel and Steve managed to salvage their relationship. And, they stayed in touch with Dave Kelly. While the series was short, it did a great job delving into the grief parents face when their children are killed so early into life. The finale kept me on the edge of my seat. At times, I was certain Mercer was going to walk free.

However, it seems Mercer has coped well in prison. Shortly after his sentencing, he stabbed another inmate, Jake Fahri, with a shank made from a pair of tweezers. He is now worried that Little Boy Blue could place a target on his back. The finale episode was spectacular just like the three previous. It scores a 9 out of 10. Jamestown Review

The 6th episode of Jamestown wasn’t bad. It did a good job of pushing the story forward. Henry and Davie managed to find silver. Silas went on a search for his brother. James has finally managed to convince Alice that he is a decent guy. And of course, Alice now has a weapon to defend herself from Henry. She may need it in the upcoming episode. Unfortunately, the episode felt like it was going in circles with Verity and her thievery.

It eventually served a purpose, but it drug on for far too long. The series has definitely had better episodes. The 6th scores a 6.5 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of Jamestown now.

Wentworth Review

This episode of Wentworth was fairly good. However, it feels like much of the episode should have happened way earlier in the series. The ineffective lead up and long winded series really stunted the impact of the attack on Ferguson. The show probably could’ve done itself a favor by shortening the length of each season. Nevertheless, the episode was still good. It is great that Vera has finally removed the blinders. Simultaneously, it is likely her actions could put her back into the governor’s seat.

I would assume Allie and Franky still plan to follow through with their escape. However, Ferguson will likely find a way to interrupt that. Will the Freak be able to regain her allies? Or, will he attempt to combat the girls on her own? The finale should be interesting. This episode scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Wentworth as soon as possible.

The Loch Review

The Loch has all the potential in the world. The premise of the show is unique and the scenery is beautiful. Simultaneously, the acting is very good. Laura Fraser and Siobhan Finneran are great in almost everything. Unfortunately, the first episode of the new series was a major disappointment for many reasons. First and foremost, there are simply way too many characters. Despite watching the episode fully and running through again for the recap, I am still not able to name everyone.

Also, many of the male characters were written to be incredibly stupid. Annie Redford and Lauren Quigley could’ve been great detectives, without needing to dumb down everyone around them. And finally, the ending of the episode was very cliché. I sincerely hope the series doesn’t take on a supernatural tinge. The series lacks any emotion making it difficult to connect with any of the characters. The episode could’ve been good, but it wasn’t. It scores a 6 out of 10.

Fearless Review

Fearless started off pretty strong, besides a few hiccups along the way. The concept of a potentially innocent man being locked in prison for 14 years is always intriguing. Plus, you really can’t go wrong with Helen McCrory. In fact, each member of the cast did great in the series opener. The only downside of the episode was the refugee propaganda. It felt like it was thrown in there to tug at heartstrings and it simply got in the way of a really good thriller.

There is a chance the whole Syrian refugee angle will pay off in the long run, but it was nothing more than a distraction here. Let Emma focus on helping Kevin clear his name. That in and of itself will be good enough. As long as the series doesn’t get too politically correct and end up pitting Emma against an entire spy agency, it should be good. The episode scores a 7.5 out of 10.

The Handmaid’s Tale Review

I really had no intention of watching the rest of Handmaid’s Tale and this episode delivered further justification for my decision. Nevertheless, I was forced into it by an untimely Windows update. This episode was far worse than the previous. Nothing of significance happened. The ritual birth was equally cheesy and silly. Plus, the episode was overloaded with irrelevant flashbacks.

Finally, the annoying inner dialogue needs to stop. The viewer doesn’t need Offred to explain each and every one of her emotions. It feels like the writers think we’re invalids and need to be spoon fed. This far, The Handmaid’s Tale has been a major disappointment. The commercials looked great, but the series itself is horrible. The only redeeming characteristic is the show’s uniqueness. Otherwise, it hasn’t been worth watching. The episode deserves a 4 out of 10.

White Princess Review

The 6th episode of The White Princess was fairly good, despite the lame magic tricks. Elizabeth continues to prove she is a force to be reckoned with. Despite her mother’s trickery, she managed to help Henry overcome Richard on the battlefield. While it seems like Henry is victorious now, it is unlikely that the series is going to end on a happy note. It will be interesting to see how Lizzie reacts to her brother.

Will Richard’s presence convince Lizzie to change her mind about Henry? The episode scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of The White Princess right now!

The White Princess Review

The 7th episode of The White Princess was pretty good and it did a great job of setting up the finale. Lizzie attempted to play both sides and it ended up strengthening her brother and weakening her husband. Maggie finally stepped out of the shadows and took decisive action. Henry has become unstable and paranoid. However, he seems to be slowly unraveling his mother’s lies. Will Margaret finally receive justice in the finale?

Which side will Lizzie choose? Will the curse be fulfilled and will it lead to the death of Henry? I am eager to find out what happens. The episode deserves a 7.5 out of 10. Check out our previous recaps of The White Princess.

Fearless Review

The first episode of Fearless wasn’t bad. Unfortunately, everything fell apart in the second. First and foremost, Robin Weigert’s acting is borderline horrific. The quality of acting between the American and the British is clearly distinguishable and it does not favor Robin. Simultaneously, the series has ramped up the refugee propaganda to the point that it is no longer tolerable. The case of Kevin Russell could be interesting enough without the nonsense conspiracy theory and ISIS rhetoric.

If I was interested in having sympathetic refugee propaganda crammed down my throat, I would watch the national news. There is a time and place for everything and it simply doesn’t fit here. The Kevin Russell case should take precedence over the other nonsense.  Sadly, I was very disappointed. The episode scores a 4 out of 10. Previous Fearless recaps are available on Reel Mockery.

Wentworth Review

This season of Wentworth drug on and on and on. The finale wasn’t much different. Franky and Allie ran around in circles for the first 30 minutes. Nothing really happened until the last 10. The Liz character finally aligned herself with the original and opted to poison her nemesis. It is unknown whether or not Sonia has died. After an excruciating wait, Franky finally made her escape, but she did so without Allie.

Allie gave up her chance at freedom in return for revenge on Joan Ferguson. The finale itself wasn’t spectacular, but it wasn’t terrible either. The problem is the fact that much of this could’ve happened five episodes ago. It feels like this season sucked the remaining bit of life out of the series. Where does it go from here? Do I even care at this point? I’ll probably watch the next season, but my interest in Wentworth is beginning to wane.

The finale scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Wentworth now.

Jamestown Review

The 7th episode of Jamestown wasn’t too bad. There were a few cheesy moments here and there. Mercy’s fear of Henry was slightly childish, but simultaneously funny. The way George managed to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes so easily was a little unbelievable. Nevertheless, the episode did a great job of setting up the finale. Now, Henry is in complete disarray. He has fallen into the governor’s web. What will snap him out of it?

Will Temperance now learn the truth about Jocelyn? How will Farlow and Redwick retaliate? I am not convinced the series will get a second season. Nevertheless, I have grown to like it and look forward to the finale. This episode scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Jamestown right now.

The White Princess Review

The finale of The White Princess was a little slow in the beginning. Things didn’t pick up until it was already halfway over. Nevertheless, it ended fairly well. Elizabeth ultimately stepped into Margaret’s shoes and emulated her actions. Her motives were definitely different, but she proved she was more than capable of protecting her family. Maggie was caught betraying England. She was partially responsible for the death of Teddy and Richard.

While the finale was pretty good, it was somewhat open ended. It feels like there is more ahead. Wolsey doesn’t feel right to me. Unless the character was haphazardly written, it seems he is up to something sinister. The finale deserves a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of The White Princess today!

Christina admits she took out the pension this morning. Christina becomes concerned that she could go to prison. They pray together as the episode ends.

Broken Review

Lets get this out of the way right away. Broken is incredibly slow. The slow pace will certain turn off a lot of viewers. Nevertheless, the pacing seems to work well for the type of story Jimmy McGovern is attempting to tell. Christina’s actions might seem a little unrealistic, but they’re not. I personally know several people that would do the same and you probably do as well. The first episode has done a good job of establishing believability.

The show is very deep. Many of the troubles Christina faces are widespread across the globe. They’re not solely isolated to the UK. Father Michael Kerrigan has his own set of problems. It is clear he was abused as a child. However, I expect more details to be revealed over the next few episodes. I enjoyed the first episode. It wasn’t perfect, but it was emotionally effective. The episode scores a 7.5 out of 10.

The Loch Review

I was forced to rush this one. If you find errors above, you know why. Plus, I find it difficult to put much effort into recapping The Loch, since it is so bad. The series could be good, but it isn’t in the least. I love Laura Fraser. Sadly, she should’ve stayed away from this one. The series is only three episodes, yet it hasn’t gone anywhere. I just can’t get into it. Some might like it, but I’ve lost all interest at this point. A 5.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with past recaps of The Loch now.
