Helen insists she realizes that didn’t want to make Vernon leave, but had no choice. She also thanks Trish for making him so happy during his stay.

Broken Review

The second episode of Broken picked up the pace by adding in new storylines and characters. A young man, Vernon, lost his life due to his mental illness. Kerrigan felt partially responsible, since he ignored Helen’s call. We were also introduced to a gambling addict, Roz. She initially wanted to commit suicide, but was apparently talked out it. Father Kerrigan’s life is incredibly miserable, yet the people he encounters feel authentic.

Kerrigan does his best to help others, but perhaps he needs more help than anyone else. Broken is starting to feel a little like In Treatment. When Michael Kerrigan sits down and has a conversation with a member of his congregation, it feels very similar to In Treatment. It is still a little slow and that may make it a little boring for many. Nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed both episodes and feel that the show is progressively improving. The second episode scores an 8 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of Broken now.

Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t watch the screen as it passes by the dead body in the lake. Dr. Simon Marr (John Heffernan) is brought in for questioning. He becomes agitated and leaves in a hurry. Blake heads to the lab and speaks with one of the scientists. He pleads with her to speak about her methods, so he can use it in his book. The van’s backdoor is popped open and Jonjo’s body rolls out onto the ground.

The Loch Review

Going into the 3rd episode, I thought it was the finale. I was disappointed to find out that there was yet another episode ahead. I could speculate as to the killer’s identity. However, at this point, I really couldn’t care less. The series has become bogged down with Annie running around the same old places time and time again. Blake, Frank and Quigley feel like they’re stuck in a love triangle. Plus, I cannot believe the series is adding new characters this late into the game.

I can barely keep up with the current characters. The addition of Oliver and his friend is only going to add to the confusion. The scarecrow reminded me of Bellevue and possibly the only good thing I can say about The Loch. It is slightly better than that series. That isn’t much of a compliment sadly. This episode scores a 5 out of 10. Catch up with past recaps of The Loch right now.

Meanwhile, Father Kerrigan thinks about the time he told his preacher about the sexual abuse. The priest told him to keep it a secret from everyone.

Michael becomes enraged and yells that is going to pray for man, until he realizes what he has done. He also hopes the man will suffer long enough and hard enough for God to show him mercy.

Broken Review

Initially, I thought Broken was going to delve into racial politics. It brushed over that and shed a light on something far bigger. Andrew Powell’s predicament felt very authentic. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that similar situations play out in real life frequently. It appears that Dawn Morris and Dennis Kilcaid will not get punished for the death of Vernon Oyenusi. While the episode definitely portrayed Dawn as the bad girl, it focused more on Andrew’s own internal struggle.

More importantly, Andrew’s case forced Michael Kerrigan to confront his own demons. He tracked down Father Matthew and gave him a piece of his mind. After getting away with his crimes for so many years, Father Matthew probably feels invincible at this point. Plus, he has been protected by the church. Who could touch him? Andrew’s struggle was interesting, but the climax was definitely the encounter between Kerrigan and Matthew. It lifted the episode to another level. It deserves an 8.5 out of 10. Emma calls Kevin that night and pleads with him to take the stand. At the end of the episode, it appears Heather discovers something in the crime scene photos.

Fearless Review

Sadly, Fearless has gotten to the point that it is barely watchable. The only redeeming aspect of the show is Sam Swainsbury. Sadly, his character has been pushed to the back of the bus. Robin Weigert is horrific. And, the more I see Helen McCrory in this show, the less I like. Despite some of the horrible situations she faces, she continues smiling anyway. She gets popped in the nose by Beth and continues smiling. She sends Kevin back to prison and continues smiling.

The permanent smile gets on my nerves like a pesky gnat. On top of that, the show is irritating. The political correctness gets in the way of a good story. Who cares about ISIS and Syria? Who cares about Dominic’s sexuality or Banville’s adoption attempt? The story is Kevin Russell. Sadly, the writers have crammed in too much garbage and it completely overshadows Kevin’s plight.

This show could’ve been great had it focused on Kevin and Kevin alone. Heather and Emma Banville weren’t needed. The spy thriller aspect is lazily written and childishly executed. Perhaps the writers were overly ambitious or maybe their liberal white guilt got in the way? Who knows? One thing is certain though, they’ve turned a potentially good story into a steaming pile of doo doo. A 4 out of 10 awarded to the 3rd episode. Catch up with previous recaps of Fearless now.

Three Girls Review

Wow. The opener for Three Girls was very, very raw. It certainly didn’t hold anything back. The episode showcased how incredibly easy it is for older men to take advantage of society’s most vulnerable. In this case, those scumbags were Pakistani and Middle Eastern and it appears they’ve been getting away with their hideous crimes for a long, long time. While it is true that society is filled with rapists and child abusers of all races and classes, Three Girls should make us cautious to bring any more in.

Doesn’t the UK have its fair share of problems already? America sure as heck does. We should deal with those problems, before inviting more in. It appears Rochdale is an asylum seeker’s safe haven. Call it racist or xenophobic, but it is what it is. Most refugees appear to be middle-aged and older men. The women and children are frequently left behind. Is it any wonder such crimes occur? Kudos to BBC for shedding a light on a problem that is often swept under the rug for political purposes. The episode was great, but very disturbing. An 8.5 out of 10 is deserved.

The following day, Massinger visits the Sharrow farm. He attacks and threatens Silas. Alice rushes inside and pleads with Henry (Max Beesley) to do something and stand up for his brother. Henry heads outside and threatens Massinger. In town, Samuel speaks with the governor about the thieves. He pleads with his brother to farm his own land and thrive. The townsfolk dance and enjoy themselves. However, the party comes to halt when Massinger passes by with his new slaves. Read seems disturbed, but follows along anyway.

Jamestown Review

The first season finale of Jamestown was satisfying. However, I am a little surprised we didn’t learn more about the silver. I am still convinced that Henry struck it rich and he was simply betrayed by the Governor. Nevertheless, the finale did a good job ending storylines and starting new ones. Henry seems to have redeemed himself and Silas has apparently done the same. Jocelyn has also managed to prevent Temperance from exposing her history.

The writers could still do a great deal with Jamestown in the future. There is still the scheming between Farlow, Redwick and Yeardley. Plus, the bickering between Massinger and the Sharrow family could explode at any minute. The series isn’t the best I’ve seen, but it is still worth watching. The finale scores a 7.5 out of 10. Sandy also questions whether or not the girls are ready to be cross examined.

Three Girls Review

The 2nd episode of Three Girls was equally good as the first. However, I am a little baffled as to why the series continues to refer to the suspects as Asian. It appears to me from the appearances and names that the suspects are of Middle Eastern descent. Nevertheless, the series is gripping and grueling. The ongoing impact of the rapes is very authentic and a little difficult to watch. I am very curious to see how it all ends. Three Girls is without a doubt one of the best series I have watched in quite some time.

The second episode deserves an 8.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Three Girls right now!

Three Girls Review

Three Girls was powerful, eye-opening and very emotional. The finale really pulled on the old heartstrings. It would be nearly impossible to watch all three episodes and not feel some type of emotion. The authentic nature of the series and the wonderful acting definitely helped to make Three Girls something special. The media turned out to be no better than the police by continually referring to the men as “Asian”. Clearly, the men were Middle Eastern. From Daddy’s courtroom behavior, he had no remorse and very little, if any, respect for the white people of Britain.

The series itself was fantastic. I enjoyed every episode equally. The finale scores a 9 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Three Girls right now!

Broken Review

The 4th episode of Broken was riveting. Besides a few scenes, the episode focused primarily on Roz and her dilemma. This made it fascinating, yet incredibly bleak. The series is very authentic. This helps to make it an emotional powerhouse. In the end, it appears Roz finally made the decision to end her life. Once again, Michael was powerless to prevent another death. This will undoubtedly plague him over the next two episodes. How about Roz’s family? How will they handle her death?

Where do we go from here? Broken continues to deliver surprise after surprise. It is definitely too deep for many, but I’ve enjoyed it. The 4th episode was by far the best. A 9 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous Broken recaps right now!

Fearless Review

Fearless is on the verge of being so bad that it is borderline good. The series is so cliché that it isn’t even funny at this point. And of course, Robin Weigert never fails to horrify me episode after episode. The series is horrendously bad. It doesn’t know whether it wants to be a legal drama, refugee propaganda or a spy thriller. It tries too hard to be so many different things at once and fails equally on all levels. Now, the series has removed Kevin Russell in the most idiotic way possible.

The only likeable character is now removed from the equation. It is hard to find anything likeable about the series. The intro scene is somewhat clever though. Some people may enjoy the series, but I am over it at this point. A 4.5 out of 10 is given to the 4th episode. Catch up with previous recaps of Fearless now!

Broken Review

Wow. What a great episode. The decision to pit Ned Dennehy and Danny Sapani against one another was brilliant. Simultaneously, the episode managed to tackle racism and homophobia. We didn’t delve too much into Michael’s past, but that didn’t matter. The episode was humorous, but also very depressing. It was perhaps the first time all season that Michael Kerrigan’s prayers were answered. Many of the characters are not perfect, but it is still easy to sympathize with them and their situations.

This episode proved that Ned Dennehy is undervalued. Why they haven’t used him more in Peaky Blinders is beyond me. The 5th was definitely the best episode of the series. A 9.5 out of 10 is well deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Broken now.

The Loch Review

I simply cannot get into The Loch. I love Laura Fraser and I enjoy Siobhan Finneran most of the time. Sadly, The Loch is just disappointing. I’ve lost all enthusiasm for the series and do not care one way or the other. I am really shocked that the writers decided to drag it out more than 3 episodes. It could’ve ended a long time ago and I doubt anyone would’ve cared. I’ll punish myself by finishing the entire season, but I do not see it getting another one.

Broken Review

What a great finale. Broken delivered one of the best season finales I have seen in quite some time. While the previous 5 episodes were bleak, the 6th managed to wrap everything up in an uplifting, emotional charged package. Chloe took the advice Michael had given her mother and spoke out against gambling machines. Michael finally told Helen the truth about the night of Vernon’s death. In doing so, he seems to have inspired Andrew Powell to also tell the truth. Nevertheless, Michael was left broken and questioned his own abilities as a priest.

Helen got her answers and Michael received justification for continuing as a priest. Broken is centered around religion, but it is more about the community. While the show delves into many political landmines, it travels the field carefully and focuses more on the human struggle and that is what makes it so successful. The series has been great. It is ultimately too deep and depressing for many, but I’ve enjoyed each and every episode. I would definitely watch more. The finale scores a 9.5 out of 10. Seven Types of Ambiguity Review

The first episode of Seven Types of Ambiguity was fantastic. The excellent performances from Alex Dimitriades and the others certain help. Simultaneously, the story itself is downright intriguing. It is authentic and that makes it even creepier. While the mystery aspect of the show seals the deal, it touches on many different hardships of human life. We see Joe and Mitch struggle and scheme to try and make a buck.

Their scheming could land them in hot water in the future. Nevertheless, it appears Joe’s family life has taken a backseat to his ambitions. We also discover that the Marin marriage isn’t what it seems. Joe has apparently been sleeping with prostitutes and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that Anna has been carrying on a relationship with Simon.

At this point, we have more questions than answers. As long as Seven Types of Ambiguity can maintain this quality level, it should be great. I can’t wait to see how things play out. The opener scores a high 8.5 out of 10.

Born To Kill Review

What the heck? That is one of the first responses I had to Born to Kill. The series is oddly alluring, yet incredibly creepy and disturbing. It has plenty of noticeable flaws, such as some strange dialogue and a few believability issues. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the first episode and Jack Rowan’s haunting performance. The series isn’t totally believable, but the Sam character definitely had a Ted Bundy like vibe.

Rowan certainly made the episode worth watching. I am intrigued and can’t wait to find out what happens next. What will Sam do now? How will he react when he learns about his father? Or perhaps he already knows? Born To Kill is very unique and unlike anything I’ve seen before. That is rare today. The opener scores a solid 7.5 out of 10.

The Loch Review

The Loch has been a major disappointment from start to finish, yet somehow it has scored well with critics. I am a little baffled by the fact that the so-called critics from The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle and St. Louis Post-Dispatch gave the series such higher scores. The fact that many have compared The Loch to Broadchurch is laughable, if not downright ridiculous. I enjoy Laura Fraser and Siobhan Finneran just as much as everyone else, but their decisions to take roles in The Loch has me questioning their judgment.

This episode pinpointed many of the biggest flaws with the show. First and foremost, the series is insanely politically correct. Each Caucasian man in the series is either a pedophile, murderer or a borderline rapist. Even the white police officers are portrayed are imbeciles. Meanwhile, Lauren Quigley is a 50 to 60 year old bad arse. Quigley’s beating of Blake this episode was child’s play. It didn’t matter that she was as stiff as a 2 by 4. There are better ways to portray women as tough, independent and smart.

Simultaneously, the episode felt like an unnecessary side trip. Much of it was too predictable. It didn’t take a genius to realize that Dessie wanted to shoot and kill someone. And, as soon as I saw Kieran in the van, I knew he would be portrayed as the hero in one way or another. Finally, the man’s body in the water has been discovered. After such an excruciating wait, we finally get to pull the body out of the water and identify the man.

How can anyone care at this point? The series has been so sluggishly slow and incoherent that it doesn’t matter. The second coming of Christ couldn’t save The Loch. Still, I’ll admit that it is so bad that I find myself laughing at the silliness from time to time. For that, the series is a little better than Bellevue and Fearless. Unfortunately, that isn’t saying much. A 4.5 out of 10 or lower is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of The Loch now, if you want to punish yourself a little more.

Seven Types of Ambiguity Review

Boy, Seven Types of Ambiguity is a fascinating watch. I was skeptical that this episode would be as good as the first, since it focused on the shrink, who isn’t necessarily one of the lead characters. My worries were quickly quelled. The episode was equally good, if not better than the first.

Hugo Weaving brilliantly acted the role. Simultaneously, it was gripping to watch the interactions between Alex and Simon. Was Simon simply toying with Alex by using his own struggles against him? What type of relationship does Anna share with Simon? Have they recently reconnected or is Simon simply obsessed with a former flame?

Alex’s situation with his wife closely aligned with Simon’s relationship with Anna. Was that coincidental or a well planned scheme by Simon? I am totally hooked at this point. In fact, Seven Types of Ambiguity is one of the best shows I have watched this year.

This episode scores a solid 8.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Seven Types of Ambiguity right now.

Fearless Review

Jesus. That was long winded and rushed. I feel little to no enthusiasm for Fearless, so there are probably tons of errors above. I simply do not care, because this show seriously blows loads. The series is already cliché enough and now we revisit the Iraq war. Did the writers aim to copy from London Spy? I doubt they would even have that level of intelligence. It is more likely that they just threw everything on the wall and prayed something would stick.

Wunmi Mosaku and Michael Gambon are pretty good. As the series drags on ever so painfully, I grow increasingly irritated with Helen McCrory and her persistent smile. Her nemesis Robin Weigert is even worse. At times, it feels like she has just snorted thirty lines of Adderall. I’ve never seen such an annoying performance. Fearless is downright terrible and there is truly no way to save this stinking pile of garbage. A 3 out of 10 is deserved. Check out recent recaps of Fearless, if you’re a glutton for punishment.

Seven Types Of Ambiguity

Seven Types of Ambiguity continues to intrigue. I am fascinated by the drama revolving around the kidnapping. However, it is the human aspect of the series that makes it so compelling. Each episode has tackled a new societal problem. Joe’s episode detailed the struggles of a workaholic. The second episode showed Alex’s struggle with a divorce that he didn’t want.

This episode was a little similar to Alex’s and Joe’s. Everyone has romance troubles. However, Angela had a big secret that she wanted to keep hidden from her family. Her feelings for Simon eventually exposed those secrets to the public. And now, we’re prepared to focus on Mitch. It appears Mitch and Joe have had a falling out. What does Mitch know or what does he suspect?

The 3rd episode was great. An 8 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Seven Types of Ambiguity right now.

The narrator reveals that Barnhill was killed shortly after leaving town. He was killed in 1944 and buried in Belgium. Francis also wonders what his father knew at the time. He hopes his father wasn’t involved in the attack, but wouldn’t be surprised either way.

My Mother and Other Strangers Review

In the beginning, My Mother and Other Strangers felt a little empty. During the first twenty or thirty minutes, I felt like something was missing. As it carried on, the pieces began to fall into place. Emma experienced her first romantic encounter. Unfortunately and expectedly, it quickly went awry. Her father refused to allow her to date an American. Due to his persistence, Barnhill was eventually attacked by the locals. It was Rose that saved the day. She also protected her daughter from further heartbreak in the end, by concealing the letter.

Rose seems to want more than Michael has to offer. That leads me to believe she may have a future fling with Ronald Dreyfuss. The series is a little predictable and cliché.
